Found it!

Here is the before and after photo (although in the after photo I still need to paint the trim, caulk the toilet, and as I mentioned in my previous post, figure out what that leak is all about!) You can see in the before picture that it was almost impossible to get the floor to look clean…it had an odd cream/yellow tint, especially near the edges.

  3. Thanks Cara! I’m so happy that I can clean it and actually know when I’m done. ;)

Kristin, I love checkerboard too. I know we won’t be able to afford a major remodel of the bathroom for a number of years, since we just remodeled the kitchen…so I thought, “If I’m going to do vinyl, I’m going to have checks!” I like it. I think I need to seal the seems on each square though…doesn’t seem like they’ll stand the test of time with all the water in the bathroom!

  4. we did the same floor in our main bathroom when we moved the toilet. eventually we’ll put hex-tile when the whole room gets gutted… probably in about 5 years. :)

  6. I love the floor AND the toilet. What kind of floor is this - manufacturer/material? And if you don’t mind my asking, where’d you get the terrific toilet? I’m getting ready to renovate my 50’s kitchen & bathroom and this is just what I’m looking for.

  7. Hi Jennifer! Well, actually the floor is just vinyl tiles, (peel and stick) from home depot. Very easy to install on top of the old linoleum, all the directions are on the package, including buying a leveler compound, etc. I did it in one day. About the toilet…well, it’s just a regular toilet by Kohl. In fact, they have one right down the street at our little mom-and-pop shop. HOWEVER, what you need to buy seperately is the black toilet seat. I got that at a large hardware store in Eugene Oregon, but you should be able to get one just about anywhere. :) The seat makes all the difference in the “look”.

  8. Thanks, Laurie and Eric! I will check out those tiles - and great tip about the toilet. I’m really enjoying your blog - just discovered it a couple of days ago.

  9. Thanks for the compliment Jennifer! It’s always great to hear from the readers. We’re going to be quiet until we get our new site up, which is hopefully within the next week. It’s not easy switching over all this text! But, soon…ranchredo.com
