We actually do some work on the house!

Well, we had a productive weekend! Amazing. Not only did I finish painting the blue in the kitchen, I continued into the hall to the garage, and the back wall of the TV room. Here’s a picture of Eric helping me by adjusting some light switches in the new blue hall.

And, here is a picture of the path to our front door. I’m guessing this path was made in 1951. Eric is going to jackhammer this path, and Trevor, from Stone & Cobble, will be putting in a new path for us using red pavers. You’ll also note on either side of the path there are red bricks that we’ll be pulling out.

And finally, Eric asked me to take pictures of the “piles of shit” around the yard that he created yesterday. This is probably only ¼ of all the “shit” he’ll be digging up in the next few weeks as we prepare to add paths, rearrange the trees and shrubs, etc.

  1. Wow, nice work.
I’m a little (okay, a lot) jealous because you have green grass… and flowers… and your ‘piles of shit’ look nicer than the better parts of my yard right now.
Is that a coloured cement or some kind of re-facing on the steps at your entrance? Just wondered, as it looks pretty recent (certainly compared to the walkway).

  2. Hi Shauna! Someone painted the cement at some point…it’s kind of a brown washed look. This means I’ll be repainting it myself, but I’ll use something specifically made for cement, as I don’t think what is on it right now is made for cement. And I think I’ll match it to the darker color that we are painting the garage.
Oh, and about the grass. Yes, Oregon is great because we do have green grass through the winter (although in the middle of summer I’m sure some tourists wonder why so many Oregonian’s don’t water their lawn, but I’ve never seen a lawn die around here…they come back every fall). Anyway, some people may have green grass around here, but what we actually have, if you look closely, is green moss with a few sprouts of grass. That’s right, almost our entire front lawn is actually moss. You can’t tell, until you look close. :)

  3. Love, love, LOVE the blue! So fresh and clean! I’m trying to figure out where in my house to use blue. It’s in the painting that I’m basing my color choices around and I know I want to use it somewhere:)

I second Shauna’s comments, I’m SO JEALOUS of your yard! Except for mowing and occasionally weeding, our landscaping is going to be ignored until we get finished with these big projects. We don’t have the time or the money to dedicate to it now *sniff sniff*. I think your yard looks great!

  4. Thanks Kim! The color is City Lights by Pittsburg paints. I absolutely love it. My mom described it as “sky blue” and I think it’s a dead-ringer for the blue I’ve seen in Pottery Barn lately. We used it in the living room, kitchen, and now the hallway. It’s very serene. I like it because it reminds me of what the sky looks like in the summer (the winters in Oregon can be awfully long and dreary!).
