Eric is freaking out

Don’t tell Eric I said this, but I think he’s going to have a psychotic break - over weeds! Because we were in Nebraska last week we had to leave the yard in-process, which meant it stood all week in a sort of “chaotic state” (the neighbors however, might say that our yard is trashy). Never leave your yard half-ripped-up. The weeds had babies while we were away, and they had babies, and they had babies. I had no idea so many weeds could start and mature in one short week. Our yard is now the trashiest looking place in the neighborhood. All we’d need to do is throw a few tires in the middle to really create that backwoods feeling. I think Eric is taking the day off tomorrow ‘cause he is beside himself with frustration about the yard. Today he said, “I wish I had a bobcat and a huge dumpster, I’d rip everything out and start all over.”

  1. Pooor Erique!! Although I have to admit that when I read the word “bobcat” it made me think of the feline variety and I didn’t understand how that would help with the weeds! (yes, I’m a little bit dense when it comes to large machinery). Can’t ya just get some sort of weed-be-gone and call it good?

BTW, I read “Reading Lolita in Tehran” and then I checked out the audio version from the library and listened to it in my car and I have to say that I really enjoyed listening to it!

  2. Humorously I’m not reading Reading Lolita…because I went to the bookstore to get it and ended up reading “Bookseller of Kabul” which I strongly recommend. However, next on my list is “Reading Lolita…” I’ll have to see if the library has a recorded version…

  3. A few years ago, I decided to revive a vegetable garden in the backyard of a house I was renting. The landlady said that a previous owner had an award-winning plot back there and the soil was ripe and just needed a good tilling! She had allowed grass to grow over the area, so I rented a tiller and we went down 6 whole inches to try to uproot the grass and weeds.

Needless to say, the earth was gorgeous and healthy, and within about a week the grass and weeds started to take over again. I spent about 5% of my time planting and about 95% of my time weeding. In the end, I used maybe 1/8 of the lot because I just couldn’t keep up. It was exhausting!

In Texas, everything is bigger and stronger, including the bugs, the wildlife, and THE WEEDS! Gak!

Oh, and as an aside, Reading Lolita is as good as everyone says :)
