Retro Bathroom Faucet

I love this fun retro 1950’s bathroom faucet! I found this image on HGTV, and the site says the faucet is sold through Lefroy Brooks. I cannot find this faucet anywhere on the Lefroy website…but I think it’s splendid!

1950’s Bathroom

What does a high-end 1940’s/50’s bathroom look like? Does it look like this? I have no idea. I’m just pondering the future of our bathroom, which currently looks like this. Our clawfoot tub is staying, although I realize it’s not 50’s - we have no idea how it came to be in our bathroom. I also have a pedestal sink we’d like to use, although if push came to shove I guess I could let it go. But, right now, I really have no idea what a 40’s/50’s bathroom looks like. Any ideas?

Don’t be afraid - it’s clean.

That’s what I tell myself whenever I enter our main bathroom (actually I also tell myself when I go into our other bathroom too - because it has a 1970’s fiberglass stand-up shower which I hate - I can never get it clean enough - but that bathroom had a minor facelift and is the last big project on our list, so probably won’t be updated at least for 5 years).

The main bathroom is next on my personal list of updates (Eric’s, as I’ve mentioned before, is the landscaping). There are many things about the main bathroom that I don’t like. Everyone that does remodeling/renovation probably has a list of major pet-peeves they can rattle off…and mine are all present in the bathroom:

  • Bad caulking jobs everywhere! Around the backsplash, around the windows, etc. It doesn’t end…it’s one long string of bad, gloppy, lumpy caulk.
  • Poorly made cabinets that look like they were made in a garage somewhere. Nothing seems to fit tight or close properly- poor craftsmanship.
  • A bathtub that never gets white, no matter how much it is cleaned.
  • Lights that are just WRONG! You’ll see the plexiglass light someone installed above the sink. What is that about? I’d rip it down right now, but behind the plexiglass someone ran the wiring on the outside of the wall…grrrr.
  • A toilet that does not fit the style of the bathroom. I’ve mentioned it several times, and Eric is in denial right now, but I want to move this toilet into our other bathroom, and then get a more old-school looking toilet in here that would blend better with a clawfoot tub.
  • Old paint all over the window pane.

You’ll also notice the orange countertop - which will be ripped out. Oddly, some of our friends really like the orange countertop. I think that all relates to a person’s relationship with the color orange. People generally love or hate orange…it’s not a color people are indifferent about. I’m an orange hater. I’m also a green hater. I’ve pondered the psychology of my dislike of these two colors, and I think it all has to do with clothes. I really look like crap when I wear these two colors, which I think, over the years, has led me to a personal hatred. Don’t get me wrong, I often visit other people’s homes and they have used these two colors wonderfully. I don’t have anything against other people using these colors, in fact I encourage it if they are orange or green lovers. But for me, everything usually revolves around red or grey-blue. I like these two colors the most (as you can tell in everything I decorate!)

Here is the bathroom. You can see everything I listed above…

Here is the strange plexiglass light I mentioned:

And finally, the toilet and tub:

Renovations on this room will begin in August (sigh).
