House Poetry

Underneath the green and peach and pink
there is a house.
Underneath the bricks and rocks and logs
There is a yard.

Above the wooden floors and creaking boards
There is a home.
Above the cracked cement and moss filled yard
There is sunshine.

Inside the peeling mahogany exterior walls
There is an eccentric couple
with two lazy cats and two obnoxious dogs
all filled with dreams.

Retro bed headboard

There is nothing more frustrating than finding a link that’s broken, when I’m *sure* it would have had just what I wanted. Anyway, right now I’m on a break and searching for information on padded headboards. The time has come to replace our bed, which we’ve now had for 9 years. We got it has a wedding gift when we were married 9 years ago. It’s a lodgepole pine bed. Yes, it’s wonderfully high off the ground, but our tastes have changed and we no longer dream of living in a log cabin. Instead, we want to live in a contemporary, cozy, intimate, retro flavored room! I’m trying to think of affordable ways to replace the bed frame, and I’ve seen a few padded headboards that have buttons and look kinda retro. Maybe I could make one? Here are some examples:
1) This headboard is a bit too big, but otherwise I like it.
2) This one seems very cushy.
3) This headboard is available at target for $299! But I want my headboard to go to the floor.
4) Hey even home depot has one. Too bad it’s boring and white.

Will someone come and paint our house? please.

Be prepared for a rant…

As usual, I’ve piled much too much on my plate. As you know, I’m a graduate student part-time, and I have a full-time job, I’m working on this house, and because that just wasn’t enough, this week I took on the development of a website - since it pays $30 an hour! And, I said it would take about 15 hours and I could turn it around in a week!

Why am I telling you about my new web project? Because it effects my progress on the house. You see, on Sunday I started painting the trim around the front door (don’t worry mom, I made sure to scrape and sand, etc. before painting). I put on the primer. Added a second coat of primer. The casing around the bottom of the door needed five coats of primer because THREE times the cats walked right on top of it. Seriously, if you need to open the front door of the house, it’s almost impossible to keep the cats from walking across the threshold. For example, I turned my back to the door, turned back around and saw Granola sneaking up to the door as I lurched and exclaimed “NOOooooo!” and she bolted, two paws on the wet casing and sprinted into the house and onto the couch. Luckily the floor is wood and the couch is microfiber and all are easily cleanable. But, onto my point. I did one coat of paint, and this weekend I planned on finishing up the door. However, I’m not sure when I’ll even have 30 minutes to finish this project! And when I start thinking about each window on the house, and if each window or door takes me two weeks…well that would be 58 weeks! Seriously, our house has a total of 29 doors or windows on the exterior of the house. You wouldn’t know it, but they add up fast! I’m going to be painting windows and doors all year long! AAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaagh. Seriously does someone want to paint my house?

Contest

Today we entered our house into a contest. The contest is to win a landscaping makeover and a new garage door…second place is to win a garage door. The contest asked for three pictures of our house (with emphasis on the garage) and a 50 word entry. 50 words??!! You’ve seen how much I can write in this blog. 50 words. What can a person say in 50 words? What do the judges want to hear? Should I beg or be humorous? I went for the humor route. Please keep your fingers crossed for us. We really really really want a new garage door. However, looks like the kind of garage doors we like are $3,500. Way way way out of our budget.
